Well it’s almost Christmas again – another year passed. Sometimes I wonder where the time goes.
For many people, at this time of year, they start thinking about life, the universe and everything. I know I spend time reflecting and reviewing on the year past, trying to determine what was fabulous about the year, and what I could have done better. I also turn my mind to the coming 12 months, looking forward, planning and setting goals as to what I want to achieve. I really do want the best life I can have for myself, my family and those around me. To do this I need to take heed of a couple of “secrets” to having a great life. You know as well as I that there are no real “secrets” to life, but for some, these simple “secrets” are not known to them or readily understood. These two simple points hold the key to your great life.
While life rarely falls in to place as planned, I have found that a framework for knowing what I want from life will go a long way to achieving my aims. So clearly, the first secret to having a great life is to be clear on what you want from it and then record it in the form of goals. If you have been following along with me over the years you will recall that I have spoken about this many times. If you are new to setting goals, just google “goalsetting.”
Reviewing my eight goals for the year shows me that I hit four of them and will look to complete the other four in 2017. So all in all not a bad result, considering all circumstances but not exceptional either.
How did you go with your goal list?
The next “secret” to having a great life, is in the word “great.” And it is simply this – be grateful for everything you have in your life.
Be grateful that you can read what I am writing or if someone read my words to you, that you could hear them spoken. Be grateful that you have a roof over your head and food in your belly. Be grateful that you are on your path to wealth in a safe country without the threat of war. Be grateful you don’t have to flee where you do live to escape terror. Be grateful for clean air and water. There are so many things in your life which you take for granted that you will only miss when they are gone – check in with those things now.
What are you grateful for?
There will always be someone better off or worse off than you are today. And no matter where you find yourself now, if you are not where you want to be, the first step is to take stock of where you are – that is, count your blessings and be grateful. I don’t mean do this once a year at Christmas – the power of gratitude will work best if you access it every day. Each morning, find three things that you can be grateful for, speak them out loud with enthusiasm and it will lift you up for the rest of the day, no matter your current situation.
These two simple things will lead you to the best life you can have.
This will be the last message I write to you for 2016. I am quietly excited about the possibilities for 2017 – there is so much going on and so many opportunities to be tapped in to.
I have been working to secure a number of new townhouse and land projects here in Melbourne, a market which is still moving along firmly and shows all the signs of a number of strong years to come. When I do secure a project, I will let you know so that you may have the opportunity to join me if you choose.
So until we strike a deal (in which case I will let you know soonest) or the second week of January (when you will receive the first blog for 2017) I wish you and yours the very best Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Thanks so much for your continued support. I really enjoy sharing with you and it is my earnest hope that you get value for your time spent with me.
